El projecte

The ZB750 Action is part of a major Global Project to upgrade the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona section, meet its interoperability standards for the circulation of 750-meter trains and ensure its connection to the already upgraded Barcelona - French Border section and the Barcelona-South of Spain section, under construction.

The Action covers the construction projects to improve the Reus – Zaragoza section and two of the most important core nodes in the Global Project in terms of rail traffic, Barcelona’s Terminal in Catalonia and Zaragoza’s Terminal in Aragon.

Studies will design the enlargement of sidings tracks to a length of 750 m along the stations (Almudévar, Marcen Poliñino, Selgua, Raimat and Juneda,) of Zaragoza-Tarragona by Lleida (North branch) and along the stations (Fuentes de Ebro, La Puebla de Híjar, Nonaspe and Chiprana and Flix) of Zaragoza-Tarragona by Caspe (South branch). Although on the comprehensive network, the North branch will work as second track of the South branch (on the core network) at least until 2030. Therefore, it makes no sense to upgrade only one of the tracks, since freight trains circulate in a circular loop.

These studies will lead to works to remove bottlenecks and enhance the interoperability of the target railway lines.
