The automotive sector in Barcelona and its hinterland is one of the most important, only behind food. In Catalonia there are  899 exporting companies and 20% of the vehicles in Spain are manufactured.

The Port of Barcelona moves around 800,000 light vehicles and more than 110,000 heavy vehicles every year. Vehicle distribution activity from the Far East to other Mediterranean and Northern European destinations stands out, as well as particularly efficient systems for export. For its part, the traffic of vehicle components accounts for some 108,000 TEUs per year, mainly with North Africa and Asia.

It is also the only port in the State with a European gauge that connects its port terminals with the European ones. It guarantees connection and existing services with the automobile factories of the peninsula and all of the continent, both for vehicles and components. 

Thanks to its five dedicated berths, regular connections with the main ports and rail services with all of Europe, the Port of Barcelona generates high commercial and operational synergies for this type of traffic.
