Conventional and project load
The Port of Barcelona is the main gateway to the industrial areas of its hinterland and has become an essential platform for shipping special cargo and large projects around the world since the Iberian Peninsula and southern Europe.
Tons of experience
The Port of Barcelona has extensive experience in special cargo. In 2020 alone, the infrastructure handled 540,000 tons of special and project cargo and close to 790,000 tons in 2019. The main products handled are steel (coils and profiles, rods, wire and scrap), as well as more complex goods (yachts, public works machinery, railway wagons, transformers or silos). In addition, the wide range of multipurpose terminals and vehicles in Barcelona and the supply of car carriers lines that accept heavy machinery are an important attraction for industrial and project cargo.
High specialisation
The Port of Barcelona has established itself as a reference port for the cruise industry and this activity has led to the appearance of a premier industry of passenger boarding bridges for cruise terminals around the world. This activity, which must be carried out at the dock, requires special care in the handling and final assembly of these structures, which must be loaded onto special ships.
