In the environmental field

The Port of Barcelona is committed to protecting and respecting the environment, efficiently managing natural and energy resources, promoting the use of clean energy and contributing to the fight against climate change.

In line with the 2030 Agenda, in 2021 the general director of the Port of Barcelona signed a document with a decalogue that defines our environmental policy.

• Having an adequate environmental management program that guides and improves our environmental performance, promoting decarbonisation to address climate change, energy transition, the circular economy and the protection of biodiversity.
• Keeping informed and complying with current environmental legislation and other environmental requirements to which they have subscribed.
• Working to prevent environmental accidents and maintaining a high level of readiness to reduce the effects of any incident or accident.
• Using resources in the most efficient way possible, trying to reduce consumption of non-renewables, energy consumption, CO ₂ emissions and polluting particles.
• Influencing, receiving requests and cooperating with customers, suppliers, authorities and other participants to comply with the environmental policy and communicating effectively with the local community and relevant organisations in their environmental programmes.
• Buying products and services that reduce to a minimum the negative environmental effect in their production, use and destruction.
• Providing employees with training on environmental issues so that they are considered active agents in the protection of the Environment and sustainability in their daily work.
• Ensuring that the necessary resources are implemented to meet these goals and maintain the environmental management system and its certification.
• Making accurate information available to interested parties in these areas, publishing an annual environmental statement.
• Ensuring that all its action is developed under the framework of the Port's Strategic Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

In the economic field

The Port of Barcelona is committed to a sustainable growth model, based on facilitating competitiveness, innovation, internationalisation and entrepreneurship. The purpose is to create economic value and prosperity in its environment and boost the labour market.

To this end, it assumes a role that goes beyond the traditional activities of the port. It is a hub multi-country and multi-region logistics, focused on increasing the competitiveness of its clients and companies from a hinterland that encompasses Catalonia, a large part of the north of the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France. It continues to work in this direction, to consolidate itself as an economic driving force. 

In the social field

The activity of the Port of Barcelona always takes into account the well-being of people and human capital. For this reason, it undertakes to promote relations between them and the port world and to stimulate culture and social cohesion, fostering diversity, training, creativity and interaction.

Port activity and the port environment have potential to promote a more sustainable social reality. In this sense, it supports and promotes initiatives capable of generating quality employment opportunities, based on training adapted to the real needs of their environment. It does so while promoting talent attraction through the development of the blue economy and innovation. In addition, it provides the means so that all this is carried out in a safe, egalitarian, equitable framework integrated with its urban environment.
