The Port of Barcelona is one of the most important commercial ports in the Mediterranean, where the work of crew members is essential for facilitating trade and ensuring the smooth operation of maritime activities. To support them, crew members in Barcelona have access to various services and facilities designed to make their stay more comfortable.

Port of Barcelona Welfare Committee

The Welfare Committee of the Port of Barcelona is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of crew members by providing support, services, and assistance to seafarers. The Welfare Committee was established in 2016, continuing the work of the Committee of Solidarity with the People of the Sea, which had been operating since 1997.Its main objectives include:

  1. Coordinating public and private entities involved in port and maritime activities to improve focus on the human element.
  2. Discussing and addressing human and social issues related to maritime activities at the port.
  3. Facilitating collaboration among members to resolve matters affecting seafarers arriving at the port.
  4. Ensuring the provision of welfare services for crew members.
  5. Assisting and advising organizations responsible for providing welfare facilities within the port.

Stella Maris

Stella Maris is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of maritime workers. With the motto "Your Home Away from Home," Stella Maris serves as a trusted resource for all seafarers, regardless of nationality, culture, gender, or religion.

From Monday to Sunday, Stella Maris visits vessels docked at the Port of Barcelona to welcome crew members, assess their needs, and provide information, publications, city maps, and various services.

Facilities and Services:

Stella Maris operates daily, offering crew members access to:

  • A bar
  • Accommodation rooms
  • Games and recreational activities
  • Internet access
  • Telephone services
  • Currency exchange
  • A chapel for religious services
  • A library
  • A shop

In addition, Stella Maris distributes used books, maritime bulletins, and other industry publications, while offering general assistance and advice.

The Maritime Station Office, located at International Maritime Station "C," provides crew members—especially those from cruise ships—with:

  • Two telephone lines
  • Four computers with internet access (including Wi-Fi)

Stella Maris also organizes a variety of sporting, cultural, social, and religious activities for crew members.
