Environmental action

The Port of Barcelona is electrifying its docks so that the ships that operate in the port can connect to the general electrical network with 100% renewable origin certification during berthing, minimising emissions of polluting gases.

The Port has led the energy transition in the city of Barcelona and is one of the benchmarks in terms of sustainability in Europe and the Mediterranean and to continue with this commitment to the future, it aims to electrify 50% of its docks over the next five years. The supply of renewable energy to the ships docked in the port area will reduce NOx and CO_² emissions by 22% from all port activity until 2030, contributing to a 50% reduction in overall port emissions by that date, making it possible for Barcelona to become a carbon-neutral port before 2050.
