Environmental action
The Port of Barcelona is electrifying its docks so that the ships that operate in the port can connect to the general electrical network with 100% renewable origin certification during berthing, minimising emissions of polluting gases.
The Port has led the energy transition in the city of Barcelona and is one of the benchmarks in terms of sustainability in Europe and the Mediterranean and to continue with this commitment to the future, it wants to electrify the 50% of its docks in the next five years. The supply of renewable energy to the ships docked in the port area will allow removing 22% of NOx and CO2 emissions from all port activity until 2030, contributing to the reduction of overall port emissions of 50% by that date and making it possible for Barcelona becoming a carbon neutral port before 2050.
