Tech district
One of the goals pursued by innovation in the Port of Barcelona is to turn Port Vell into a technological district linked to the blue economy, logistics and the port sector. This Blue District must include the creation of a network of innovation centres or hubs, as well as spaces for the development of tests for the maritime industry (sand box).
The work spaces
Innovation hubs are physical spaces integrating entrepreneurs, emerging companies (start-ups) and consolidated investment companies, incubators, accelerators, universities, business schools, media companies, government agencies and other entities linked to the innovative project. The port works with other entities to define the necessary spaces and uses of this innovative ecosystem.
The test fields
Unsandbox is an area for testing and demonstrating concepts and prototypes. Specific spaces must be delimited to carry out this activity, always without interfering with normal operations and with the supervision and authorisation of the Port Authority and involved or competent entities.

Our areas of interest
In terms of innovation, among everything that covers the blue economy as a port, we are especially interested in developing the following areas:
- The energy transition in the maritime world (especially OPS and new fuels).
- Industry and services to cruise ships.
- Nautical sports and leisure, with special attention to the repair & refit of yachts.
- Digitisation of the maritime sector.
- Training and employment, especially in maritime and port logistics.
Cooperate to grow
We must work together with Barcelona City Council and other public and private entities to develop the Blue District. But it is also essential that we take advantage of the relevant role of Barcelona as a digital, technological and innovative city, and rely on the powerful existing structures: 22@Barcelona, Barcelona Activa, Barcelona Tech City, Mobile World Capital, etc.
