BlueTech Port

The sheds of the San Bertrán Quay of Port Vell will be transformed into the BlueTech Port, an ecosystem that is now located at Pier01 and is set to turn the Port of Barcelona into a global benchmark in innovation and sustainability to lead the development of BlueTech, the technology in sustainable marine economy.

BlueTech Port, the future innovation hub for leadership in the blue economy

Port Vell is an inherent part of the entire innovative ecosystem of the Port and now it is also the headquarters of an ecosystem dedicated to innovation in the blue economy, the BlueTech Port.

BlueTech Port creates an innovation space within the Port of Barcelona for new technologies in sustainable marine economy, both linked to traditional sectors like (shipping, cruising, fishing, mining,...) and to new value-added industries (biotech, regentech, renewable energy...).

The ecosystem designed by the Port of Barcelona incorporates all the themes involved in the blue economy, with special attention to those segments that are most innovative and have an impact on the the construction of a solid, resilient ecosystem with capacity to grow, under a profitable economic model, which will attract investors and managers specialised in hubs.

A project that links with that of other agents of the technological ecosystem, also in Port Vell, such as Pier01, and maximises the creation of value and the competitiveness of the Port of Barcelona ecosystem.

A backbone complex

At present, BlueTech Port is temporarily located in a coworkkng at the Pier01 facilities, but in the future its headquarters will be in the Naus Sant Bertran, six units of old port warehouses connected to each other. Located next to Plaça de las Drassanes, these warehouses will make up a total floor space of 9,240 m2.

This space has a dual potential. Although its location is strategic for the growth of Barcelona, the proposed program gives it a leading role in promoting the blue economy globally.

In addition, it will also be the headquarters of the new BCN Port Innovation Foundation and the Barcelona Logistics Institute.

The first architectural intervention contemplates the adaptation of 50% of the spaces and includes the complete range of programmes on offer to guarantee the proper functioning of the ecosystem campus. The objective of the Port is that the synergies be guaranteed, as well as tested, to expand the model to the three remaining ships in a second stage of development.
