The project
Project focused on validating the concept of Sea Traffic Management (STM) defined and developed within the Monalisa 2.0 project (TEN-T no. 2012-EU-21007-S).
European Collaboration
The STM aspires to overcome the challenges present in the communication and exchange of information between people and entities in the shipping industry, providing significant added value. The project is carried out in a consortium comprising a large number of recognised organisations, such as the main manufacturers of navigation equipment, public authorities or academic bodies, in a total of 12 European countries.
Objectives of the project
- Digitalise maritime transport information and facilitate its exchange.
- Achieve a greater degree of integration in maritime transport.
- Lay the foundations for the further development and implementation of Sea Traffic Management .
Expected results
- Establish a cooperative and coordinated data exchange model in line with the European modus operandi and transport culture.
- Create a common and standardised framework for exchange of information for agents in the maritime field.
- Improve safety, sustainability and operational efficiency in maritime transport.
- Lay the foundation for policy development, as well as further research and development of Sea Traffic Management.
Validation of results
Through the STM Validation Project, the results obtained in MONALISA 2.0 will be put into practice, through large-scale test benches for Sea Traffic Management in the Nordic region and in the Mediterranean Sea. Travel Management, Circulation Management and Port Collaborative Decision Making will be tested and validated and the information structure for data exchange will be developed.
The Action refine and develop existing analyses of the effects on charter parties, legal and liability aspects, operational aspects such as user-friendliness and cyber protection and offer cost-benefit analysis with compelling business propositions for concerned parties. The Sea Traffic Management Project strongly supports the development of e-Navigation.
Participation of the Barcelona Port Authority
The Port of Barcelona participates in the project by adapting its control tower systems to be able to work with Port CDM (Port Collaborative Decision Making) and have a maritime control centre that allows the volume of digital information to be managed and updated.
