Landfall lighthouse in the Port of Barcelona, located on the SE slope of the Montjuïc mountain. The construction of the Montjuïc Lighthouse was prompted by the expansion of the Port of Barcelona to the south and an attempt to achieve, due to its altitude (108 metres above sea level), a greater beam range than that provided by the sea-level Llobregat Lighthouse.
The original lighthouse was built in 1906 and replaced in 1922 by a new building that still stands today and was commissioned in 1925. Architecturally, it is one of the most elaborate Catalan lighthouses, the work of Josep Cabestany. It's structure consists of a two-storey red brick building with a square tower and cylindrical lantern, topped by a silver dome.
