With 1.3 billion inhabitants and growing, India is a subcontinent that presents economic and traffic conditions on the rise due to the current trend of offshoring production to this country.
With the aim of continuing to strengthen the ties that unite the Port of Barcelona and its Logistics Community with the Asian continent, Mumbai hosted the Business Mission of the Port of Barcelona from October 16 to 18, as it is a strategic country in Asia-Pacific relations. Europe.
Given the change of city of the most important fair of the sector in India, the Port of Barcelona reformulated the trade mission to actively participate in the Global Maritime India Summit, in which it had an important and prominent presence as an exhibitor and in the conference panel.
In the context of the mission, the actions developed in Mumbai were:
- Business Day & networking lunch "Spain/Catalonia INDIA: new business opportunities" (120 attendees).
- Private presentations; automotive sector and "Port: Virtual Lab".
- Visit to the port facilities of "Mumbai Port Trust" (Port of Mumbai).
- Development of 22 private agendas by the companies of the Port of Barcelona delegation.
- 2 days of attendance, and participation as exhibitors, at the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) with a stand.
- Participation in the conference program of the GMIS: Global Economic Corridor; GMIS: Developing Ports for the Future; GMIS: Special Session with Maharashtra; and GMIS: Global CEO's Forum.
- Institutional and commercial meetings with: Marine Department, Logistics Committee of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Directorate General of Shipping of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Mumbai Port Trust, Adani Ports, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay – IITB, Mahindra, Samsara Group Corporation, Shipowners (The Shipping Corporation of India and MSC), customs officials, and representatives of the customs sector of both port communities.
Regarding the signing of agreements and contracts:
- The Port of Barcelona signed a letter of intent with the Port of Mumbai.
- The associations of the Port Community of Barcelona (ATEIA, COACAB) signed a collaboration agreement with their Indian counterparts.
- The Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport signed an MOU with the Federation of Freight Forwarders' Associations in India (FFFAI).
