Project

The main objective of the proposed project is the digitisation of the railway network of the Port of Barcelona (RFPB) through the implementation of a Centralised Traffic Centre (CTC) that allows controlling the  day-to-day    railway operation from the Command Post (PM) in an efficient and safe manner and in accordance with the current state of the technique.

Objectives

The main objectives of the action are the following:

  • Supervise and manage the movement of trains through the railway infrastructure to always know their position.
  • Improve security, circulation capacity and increase rail traffic in the Port of Barcelona.
  • Centralisation of alarms to optimise infrastructure maintenance.
  • Integration of the CTC with the APB system to improve management.

Participation of the APB

The APB participates in the following activities:

  • Sensorisation of lane enclaves.
  • CTC software development.
  • Connection of the enclaves to the corporate communications network of the Port of Barcelona.
  • Installation of auxiliary hardware to maximise the reliability, availability, maintenance and security of the Centralised Traffic Centre.

Expected results

Digitalisation of the Port of Barcelona railway network and as a consequence:

  • Increase the average capacity of railway circulations/rail traffic by 50%.
  • Improve safety in degraded situations and reduce the risk of accidents despite the increase in the volume of rail traffic.
  • Improve service and procedures.
  • Reduce management and maintenance costs.
  • Improve energy efficiency.
