Project

The objective of this project is to deploy and validate the necessary infrastructure to supply electricity to ships in the port of Barcelona at the BEST terminals (containers) and Barcelona Ferry Terminal (ferries), and at the Balearic ports of Palma, Ibiza, Alcúdia and Maó, also by ferry.

The electrical supply of the ships while they are at the dock, also called Cold Ironing or OPS (Onshore Power Supply), will allow them to turn off their auxiliary generators while they remain docked, and consume electricity from renewable sources, due to their demand from the port's electrical distribution network.

Objectives

The main objectives of the action are the following:

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and other polluting gases that are harmful to health, such as sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon dioxide (CO) or suspended particles n (PM), as a consequence of avoiding the use of fossil fuels and fuels for the generation of electrical energy in ships

APB Participation

The APB participates in the following activities:

  • Coordination, dissemination and management
  • Tender for the construction project of the BEST terminals and Ferry
  • Pilot test

Expected results

  • Being able to connect ships to the electricity supply of the Port of Barcelona and the Port of Palma, Ibiza, Alcudia and Mahón.
  • Stopping ship generators during stays in ports, avoiding CO emissions and consuming clean electricity directly from the port.
