Savings and efficiency

Promoting savings and improving energy efficiency is a strategic priority for the Port of Barcelona. To fulfil its commitment to environmental sustainability and the decarbonisation of port activity, it carries out actions at the facilities of the Barcelona Port Authority and associated companies, and promotes and facilitates port concessions.

Energy management

The replacement of compact lamps with LEDs and the sectorisation of lighting in the APB facilities in the Barcelona World Trade Centre are in line with better energy management.

To optimise the public lighting network, it has also been decided to incorporate lamps with LED technology and to establish time periods with different lighting intensity.

Discounts and conditions

The Port also seeks ways for the facilities and buildings of the concessions to have an efficient energy development and that renewable energy is generated. To promote it, it has two basic tools: the environmental bonuses included in the Ports Law and the specifications on this issue in the new concession contracts.

The license conditions to provide a port service force the adoption of best practices, as well as the incorporation of more efficient equipment from the point of view of energy consumption.

Model project

In the facilities of the Border Inspection Post (BIP) a project is being carried out that includes various elements of improvement and energy saving.

Expected benefits

The climatic regulation systems, LED lighting and photovoltaic modules that are installed must allow a total reduction in emissions of more than 150,000 kg Co2/year. In addition, relevant energy savings and practically self-sustaining energy facilities are foreseen.
