Port and Photography
The photographic image of the Port of Barcelona
The Port of Barcelona collaborated with the Photographic Association of Catalonia (AFC) to organise an exhibition as the closing event for its centenary celebrations.
The exhibition, which was on display at the AFC's headquarters located at Carrer del Duc, No. 14 until 10 January 2024, brought together forty reproductions of images —both historical and contemporary— captured by professional and amateur photographers who have immortalised the port environment.
According to Mr. Joan Alemany, the exhibition's curator, the collection reflected a variety of intentions and perspectives, including technical, documentary, and artistic approaches.
The exhibition sought to showcase the Port as a photographic subject and encourage visitors to ponder the blurred lines between creative expression and documentary (journalistic or technical) perspectives. It was complemented by a projection of historical images of the Port of Barcelona.
In view of the significant interest generated, the exhibition has been scheduled to tour other venues in order to further promote the cultural heritage of the Port. As a result, it could be visited at the Barceloneta Civic Centre from 4 to 27 July 2024.
From 2 August to 20 October 2024, coinciding with the America's Cup, the exhibition could be seen for free at the courtyard of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona.
From 6 February to 15 March 2025, could be seen for free at the Sala de les Ruïnes of the Pati Llimona Civic Centre.
