Montjuïc

Port of Barcelona landfall lighthouse, located on the SE slope of the Montjuïc mountain. Its construction was motivated by the expansion of the port to the south: built 108 metres above sea level, the new lighthouse achieved a greater luminous range than that provided by the Llobregat lighthouse, located at sea level.

Beauty in brick red

In 1906, the first lighthouse was built, which was replaced by the new work currently existing, built in 1922 and which came into operation in 1925.

Architecturally it is one of the most elaborate Catalan lighthouses, the work of José Cabestany. It is a two-story red brick building, crowned with a square-shaped tower. Above it the cylindrical lantern is installed, topped with a silver dome.
