The Port of Barcelona takes steps to reorganise the cruise terminals on Adossat wharf
The Board of Directors approves the revision of the concession held by Creuers del Port de Barcelona, making it possible to replace the current Terminal C with a new terminal and subsequently demolish Terminals A and B.
The new Terminal C will represent an investment of €104.5 million and will incorporate photovoltaic generation and OPS systems to avoid ships' emissions.
The Port complies with the agreement signed with Barcelona City Council to reorganise cruise activity and render it more sustainable.
The Port opens the call for tenders for the building and infrastructure maintenance service.
The Port of Barcelona today took a further step towards reorganising cruise activity on Adossat wharf and reducing the current number of terminals from seven to five. The Management Board today approved the revision of the concession granted to Creuers del Port de Barcelona for the operation of passenger terminals A and B, which will allow for a new terminal C to be built, and for current terminals A and B to be demolished once it enters into service. Operations in the current Terminal C will cease on 1 November, after which time the building will be emptied and demolished.
The action as presented specifies one of the steps set out in the agreement signed in July 2025 between Port of Barcelona and Barcelona City Council to reorganise cruise activity in the city and make it more sustainable: reducing the number of terminals from seven to five.
The project presented by Creuers del Port de Barcelona envisages demolishing the current Terminal C and building a new one on the same site, covering an area of 11,253 m² and scaled to meet current and future requirements for cruise activity and boasting the highest environmental standards, such as photovoltaic generation and onshore power supply (OPS) systems to connect ships to the electrical grid, among other actions.
The proposal includes relocating the current roundabout providing access to Adossat wharf, building the roads and intermodal areas corresponding to the future terminal and building the new passenger walkway for boarding and disembarking. The terminal will be public, therefore open for general usage. The planned investment stands at €104.5 million, of which over 50 million correspond to building the future terminal.
The item approved today by the Port of Barcelona's Management Board extends the concession held by Creuers del Port de Barcelona, which was due to run until 2030, extendable to 2033. With the approved change, the concession for the new Terminal C will end in 2050 and will be extendable until 2053.
Total rebuilding of the wharf
When the new Terminal C comes into service, Terminals A and B will be demolished, which is a prior step to the renovation works of this 660-metre stretch of the Adossat wharf which was built more than 70 years ago and requires a comprehensive overhaul.
The Port of Barcelona is working on a refurbishment project that will keep the new facilities aligned with the remainder of the Adossat wharf. The construction works will be put out to tender in the coming months, with work expected to commence late 2029. The construction period is 24 months, and the budget is €42 million.
Building and infrastructure maintenance service
Today the Port of Barcelona’s Management Board approved the tendering out of the service to provide maintenance in the civil engineering and auxiliary works in infrastructures and buildings of Barcelona Port Authority. The successful bidder will perform preventive maintenance, basic annual inspections, auxiliary work and transferring any necessary materials or furniture required in infrastructures and buildings, plus technical office work related to the corrective maintenance of such buildings and infrastructures.
The Port will assess whether the successful bidder has sufficient staff and resources (machinery, vehicles, equipment, etc.) to meet daily needs and address any occasional incidents that may occur. The winning contractor for the Maintenance Service must provide an on-call service at the Port 24/7, 365 days a year.
The call for tenders, held through an open procedure, has an indicative annual bidding budget of €2.2 million and a budget for the five-year maximum contractual term of €11.88 million (ex VAT).
