Job creation and social development

The Port of Barcelona understands that social sustainability in economic activity is demonstrated by actions that allow the development of a company in balance with its environment and above all with people.

A citizen infrastructure

The stopovers of cruise ships in Barcelona involve a significant arrival of tourists who use public infrastructures and to avoid concentration and saturation, the Port Authority has promoted the creation of more than 40 hectares of new green urban spaces. The objective is to make a port more permeable to citizens and to create well-being for the environment and the community that welcomes it.

The strategic plan of the Port of Barcelona has also set itself the goal of increasing human capital to 40,000 people working daily or regularly at its facilities. For this, the training that companies need is promoted and new opportunities to generate employment such as the blue economy are sought. Together with the Barcelona Vocational Training Foundation, the Port of Barcelona has prepared a study to adjust the training offer to the real demand of the sector.
