Palamós

Also known as the Punta del Molí lighthouse, because of the old mill that was on its site. It is located 25 metres above sea level, on a protruding rock that formerly protected the waters of the natural port of Palamós from the easterly and gregal winds. The lighthouse faces south.

Integrated into the urban environment

The facility started operating on 1 September 1865. Integrated into the urban complex of the city of Palamós, it was, together with Calella, one of the first electrified lighthouses in Spain, taking advantage of the arrival of the electrical grid in Palamós in 1917.< br />
In 1975, an important reform was carried out in its structure, due to the serious cracks that appeared in the building. These were caused mainly by the bombardments suffered during the Civil War as well as by the effects of extracting stone from a quarry near the lighthouse.

Current appearance

The current lighthouse is a hexagonal prismatic tower with a grey dome. The light is 23 metres above sea level and is the reference point for calling at the city’s port.
