The project

The SUPORT project proposes the development of innovative technologies that will efficiently and profitably generate a product with high added value, such as maritime fuel, through the revaluation by chemical transformation of the CO emitted. By producing marine fuel, CO becomes a valuable and viable product that will make CO capture economically attractive, incentivising its capture and revaluation.

One of the key aspects aligned with the lines strategic is that the recovery of CO is carried out in situ. For this reason, the project is carried out within the framework of the Port of Barcelona. Thus, CO is captured from biogas from the treatment plant present in the Port of Barcelona, to produce, by co-electrolysis and Fischer-Tropsch processes, the suitable marine fuel for the port's own vessels.

Objectives

The main objectives of the action are the following:

  • Demonstrate and develop a Power to Gas route of high efficiency and techno-economically viable to valorise the CO produced by a treatment plant through the production of a high added value e-fuel (marine fuel).
  • Start the path towards a more sustainable and circular CO scenario for some of the main industrial and transport activities of the future decarbonised Port of Barcelona

APB Participation

The APB participates in the following activities:

  • Bio-waste mapping
  • Analysis of expected results

Expected results

  • Establish renewable and new feedstocks as sustainable fuel sources.
  • Develop innovative catalytic approaches for the modification of raw materials and fuels based on crude oil.
  • Design new fuels for cost competitiveness for ease of use.
  • Take advantage of interdisciplinary approaches to this troubling social concern.
  • Strengthen collaboration between academia and industry to accelerate research product development and commercialisation.
  • Disseminate new technologies to facilitate industrial adoption and broaden social awareness.
