Built on the ruins of La Trinitat castle, the Roses lighthouse was inaugurated on 1 September 1864. It stands on a promontory called the Punta de la Bateria, also known as Punta Blancalls. At 24 metres above sea level and facing south, its beacon is orientated towards the south and Garbí (southwest) of the Gulf of Roses, providing the northernmost reference point in the bay. The Port of Roses, from which it takes its name, is just a short distance away.

The design of the lighthouse is typical of the architecture used during the initial phase of the "Lighting Plan" for the Spanish coast. It features a small house accompanied by a cylindrical tower. Currently, it is situated within the urban development area of the town of Roses.

On 5 September 1921, it was equipped with a 500W incandescent lamp, making it one of the first lighthouses to be electrified.
