A new pole of attraction for the people of Barcelona and visitors from all over the world

The Portal de la Pau building is the former institutional headquarters of the Port of Barcelona, a building with a high historical value that occupies a space of great urban centrality. The renovation that has been launched will restore an iconic building of the Port Vell, which will recover its original structure and reopen to the public to house the future Port Center, an information center on the history of the port and its importance for the city and the country, as well as multipurpose spaces for various events.

Goal: to value the port through entertainment

Explain, value itself, position the Port of Barcelona brand as a synonym of quality, innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and "barcelonality". The goal of the future Port Centre is to show the complexity of the operation of the port activity, its day-to-day life, the professions that make it possible, its history, as well as the social, economic and environmental impact generated by the port's infrastructures and activities in the development of Barcelona and the rest of the territory.

And all this from a playful design, so that the citizens of Barcelona and visitors enjoy the experience while they get to know the Port.

With the Port Center outreach center on the ground floor, the Portal de la Pau building will also recover the character open to the public, as it was conceived at the beginning of the 20th century.

Open again to the public

The Portal de la Pau building was inaugurated in June 1907 with the first floor functioning as a maritime station for the passengers of the ships that regularly connected Barcelona with the Balearic Islands.

It is a rectangular building, 50 meters long and 20 meters wide, built perpendicularly to the dock line, between the Drassanes and Bosch i Alsina docks (Moll de la Fusta). On the second floor was located a restaurant, the Mundial Palace, which became very popular among the bourgeoisie of the time and was a pioneer in offering entirely vegan menus.

With the port information center on the first floor, the Portal de la Pau building will recover the character open to the public, as it was conceived at the beginning of the 20th century.
