Smart Port: Smart Security Management
Institutional video from the Port of Barcelona showing the integrated security and protection system of the port area. The content visualizes the preventive measures, surveillance systems and response capabilities that ensure the safety of people, facilities and operations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The video presents the Port Police Control Centre, the operational core from which more than 200 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are managed, distributed throughout the port territory and covering more than 90% of the surface. The different surveillance technologies are visualized: fixed cameras, robotic cameras with movement capability, infrared cameras for night vision, thermal cameras for anomaly detection and optical character recognition (OCR) systems for automatic reading of vehicle license plates. The Control Centre has been updated with digital solutions that allow effective integration and use of control, response and management systems, coordinating with other security forces such as the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Civil Guard.
The work of the Port Police in its different areas of action is shown: traffic control and regulation in the port service area; care and assistance in case of accidents; collaboration with state security forces and bodies; and management of administrative actions arising from breaches of Port Authority regulations. Police patrols in vehicles and on foot, merchandise inspections and access control to restricted areas are visualized.
The video highlights the port's intelligent access system, which ensures that only authorized people and vehicles can access restricted areas. The management of Special Circulation Authorizations (AEC) for special transports, very common in the port environment, is shown, with detailed maps indicating the different gauges and potentially critical or limiting points of the area.
The port's commitment to health and medical emergency is visualized: a medicalized vehicle active 365 days a year in the Commercial Port and the ZAL, with an average reaction time of 5 minutes. The port is a cardioprotected space, with nearly 50 defibrillators distributed throughout the port territory, including mobile units in Port Police vehicles and facilities at the Commercial Port, ZAL and Port Vell for first emergency attention.
The annual drills carried out under the port's Self-Protection Plan are also shown, to test the coordination and availability of resources from member companies, concessionaires (PLASEQCAT) and intervention groups during a potential emergency. Cybersecurity is visualized as a fundamental pillar: the Port Authority leads the joint response to possible cyber attacks and promotes common contingency plans for the critical processes of the Port Community.
The content underlines that the Port of Barcelona maintains its operability at all times according to the planned security standards, guaranteeing the protection of people, infrastructure, activities and environment. The video concludes by reaffirming the port's commitment to security as a fundamental value of its social sustainability strategy.
