This lighthouse, located on the southern edge of the natural harbour of Cadaqués, was inaugurated on 1 September 1874.

Built at the end of the Cala Nans headland that gives it its name, it served as the primary guide for vessels making landfall in the port of Cadaqués, directing small schooner to the port side of the harbour. The lighthouse is a beautifully built cylindrical tower on a white house. The light is 36 metres above sea level.

As the maritime commercial activity of the port of Cadaqués declined during the 1st quarter of the 20th century, the lighthouse lost its strategic importance and fell into a state of neglect. In 1982, due to its deteriorating condition, there was an attempt to demolish the lighthouse and replace it with a new one. However, the residents of Cadaqués, who regarded it as an essential part of the town's historical heritage, intervened to prevent this from happening, and their efforts ultimately led to it being fully restored.
