The project

Project focused on improving the energy efficiency of the PIF Area to reduce the environmental impact of this infrastructure.

Energy efficiency is a priority strategy for the Port of Barcelona to meet its commitment to environmental sustainability. For this reason, different projects are being carried out, such as the improvement of the PIF Area to adapt its infrastructures.

 

Improvements in energy efficiency

The Planned actions to improve the infrastructure are:

  • Installation of a control and monitoring system that allows automatic control and climatic regularisation of the facility. This system, which covers an area of more than 5,000 m2 of the building, allows the useful life of the equipment to be extended by more than 15 years and will mean energy savings of 13% accompanied by a reduction in emissions of 26,240 kg CO2/year.
  • Modification of lighting technology, replacing most of the luminaries with LED lighting systems, reducing energy consumption, maintenance, power contracted and allowing future lighting regulation. This implementation, which covers a constructed area of 5,500 m2 of the building, allows the useful life of the lighting fixtures to be increased to over 14 and 19 years and will mean an energy saving of 14% accompanied by a reduction emissions of 28,389 kg CO2/year.
  • Installation of photovoltaic elements that allow the generation of renewable energy to achieve an almost entirely energetically self-sustaining building. This implementation, which covers an area of more than 5,700 m2, will mean a reduction in emissions of 105,137 kg CO2/year and the useful life of the photovoltaic modules will increase by 20 years.
