Climate strategy

The Green Deal and Fit for 55 set the goals for decarbonisation of the ports in the European Union (55% emission reduction in 2030 compared with 1990 and for reaching a Port with zero emissions by 2050). Despite this, the strategic plan of the Port of Barcelona sets the the most ambitious goal : the reduction of GHG emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2017.

The Port reduces the environmental footprint

Less emissions

For the Port of Barcelona, road transport makes sense, for short distances or for accessibility in the final or initial section of the transport chain, as well as when it forms part of the logistics chain on the motorways of the sea. But it also considers that both Short Sea Shipping and rail are often more sustainable and efficient alternatives. For this reason, the promotion of these modes for the transport of goods, from or to the port, is a way of reducing its environmental footprint.
