Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport Training

The Port of Barcelona is a founding member of the Escola, which is a reference centre for training in sustainable logistics and intermodal transport.

Courses

The main objective of the Escola Europea - Intermodal Transport is to promote intermodal transport to achieve sustainable logistics in Europe. In addition to the Port of Barcelona, the Escola has as members the ports of Rome, Genoa, and Palermo, as well as the shipping companies Grimaldi Lines and GNV.

The courses are primarily aimed at professionals in the sector and students of logistics, transport, and international trade. These courses are held at port terminals and on board the same vessels that provide Short Sea Shipping services, with the goal of allowing participants experience and gain first-hand knowledge of operations, ports, and their communities. In addition to these innovative courses, the Escola has also added various technical courses to its repertoire, such as those focused on temperature-controlled transport, groupage operations, port operations (related to vessels and goods), and maritime-rail intermodality (SURCO). It also powers Port Virtual Lab, a virtual simulation laboratory of a port community.

Likewise, through the public-private project "Forma't al Port," the Escola aims to bring the Port of Barcelona and its community closer to students of higher-level training cycles in transport and logistics, international trade, and university degrees related to the sector to train future professionals, and connect them to the realities of labour skills as demanded by companies within the port environment.

The Escola Europea, apart from its training activities, also attends to all groups interested in learning more about the Port of Barcelona and organises visits to its facilities.Maritime visits to the Port of Barcelona

In addition to training, the Escola participates in various national and international projects and maintains a blog that informs about topics related to the Blue Economy and intermodal transport.

Forma't al Port

Forma't al Port is a project that arises from a public-private collaboration among different entities with the aim of bringing the Port of Barcelona and its port community closer to students in higher-level training cycles (CFGS) in Transport and Logistics, as well as university degrees in Logistics and Maritime Business, Nautical and Maritime Transport, Marine Technologies, and Systems Engineering and Naval Technology within the influence area of this port.

It is in this context that Forma't al Port is intended to facilitate the knowledge of the logistics sector professions, especially maritime activity and intermodal transport, to today's students who are the future professionals. The results obtained from the project will translate into a better technical preparation for students, which will lead to an improvement in the employability rate of the participants.

The training offered in this programme has a clear focus on enhancing logistics chains and their sustainability, through the dissemination of the European Union's policies regarding the transport of goods and the environment.

In this programme, the "Forma't al Port - Talent" training is held: a high-performance team training entirely in English. The students who take part in this training are chosen through a selection process and a professional profile is drawn up for them based on behavioural patterns, which is made available to companies interested in attracting talent.

Companies that want to nurture their teams with prepared students can join this programme to benefit from talent recruitment.
