Protection and Regeneration of Marine Biodiversity

The Barcelona Port Authority has installed 8 special structures with bio-boosting-system (BBS) technology for the creation of natural-based bio-regenerative structures.

SDG 14 aims, among other objectives, to strengthen the resilience of marine ecosystems, the conservation of coastal and marine areas, increase scientific knowledge, develop research capacity and transfer marine technology to improve the health of the oceans and enhance the contribution of marine biodiversity.  

To achieve these objectives, the Barcelona Port Authority has installed 8 special structures with bio-boosting-system (BBS) technology for the creation of highly versatile, natural-based bio-regenerative structures, with an easy-to-install attachment system designed for easy installation to ports and platforms, multi-layer design, with larval attraction area and microscopic life, fish nursery space, and natural substrate LIFESKIN technology, creating new complex and resilient habitats.

These structures have been designed by OCEAN ECOESTRUCTURES, a company specialized in the design and implementation of biodiversity regeneration systems through the application of state-of-the-art scientific techniques.
