Remodeling of ASTA facilities
Project leader
The project
The Barcelona Port Authority is carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation of the ASTA building to improve its energy efficiency. Facades, insulation, and installations will be renewed, increasing its energy rating. In 2023, the HVAC system was adapted to connect it to the heating and cooling network developed by Ecoenergies Barcelona.
The building will consume green electricity and use renewable energy for heating, cooling, and hot water, minimizing its environmental impact.
Use of regasification cold energy
The cooling network will harness the residual cold generated during LNG regasification at the Enagás terminal, creating a refrigerated circuit at -20° for industrial uses and climate control. This innovative system will prevent energy waste and save 32,000 tons of CO₂ per year by eliminating conventional electric chillers and reducing costs and noise.
Funding
The project receives public funding covering 43% of eligible costs, within the framework of the “Energy Consumption Reduction Plan for the General State Administration,” objective RSO2.1 of Spain’s 2021–2027 Multi‑regional ERDF Programme, aimed at promoting energy efficiency and reducing emissions. Management and monitoring are carried out by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).
