OpenPort

The OpenPort programme is one of the initiatives of the Port of Barcelona to promote the competitiveness of the sector and industry in the territory. The objective is to create a space for relations between start-ups and the port-logistics community.

OpenPort is a uniter between the innovative ecosystem and the companies of the Port. Through challenges, hackathons, industry meetings, conferences or exchanges of experiences, solutions are sought for present and future challenges.

The OpenPort open innovation programme, in which all companies that can add value can participate, revolves around 3 main axes:

1. Bringing the innovative ecosystem closer

The group of companies, start-ups or experts with innovative solutions get in touch with the Port Community of Barcelona, generating spaces to share ideas, challenges and analysis, through different initiatives:

Port Innova

This open innovation programme wants to become a meeting point between the port and Vocational Training (VT) students.

The main objective is to promote transversal skills in vocational training through real innovation projects. In this way, it contributes to increasing the quality of employment for students and the access of companies to the creative talent that exists in the centres.

For four editions, PortInnova has been part of MetrópolisFPLab, promoted by the Metropolitan Agency for Economic Development of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and the BCN Vocational Training Foundation.

In the framework of this programme , and promoted by the Secretary of Telecommunications, Cybersecurity and Digital Society of the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the support of i2CAT, the SmartCatalonia Challenge focused on finding ICT solutions for six challenges proposed by the Port of Barcelona.

2. Generating innovative knowledge

To implement an innovation model, it is vital to know the opportunities and trends or position yourself in the target sector and market and OpenPort contributes to this generation of knowledge by holding inspiring and training talks, disseminating innovative experiences or participating in good practice sessions.

Innovation Days

This initiative has consisted of training sessions and seminars where innovation has been the central axis of knowledge, strategy and discussion. The Port of Barcelona is firmly committed to innovation, as it has been working for years to enhance the competitiveness of its business fabric and that of port environments. The first edition of the Innovation Days, with short sessions, has been totally free.

3. Support funding

Facilitating investors and corporate partners in the port-logistics sector to meet the startups of the most promising sector.

Tech Tour

The Port of Barcelona has hosted the first European Tech Tour for the maritime sector. Up to 33 startups presented their solutions dedicated to digital trade and logistics, cargo and sustainability, in front of a jury made up of the investors themselves. Tech Tour was the scene of the much-needed ecosystem between the maritime-port sector, the vending and investment funds to promote the inflow of capital that drives innovation. The event will be held annually.
