Logistics leader in southern Europe and the Mediterranean

Barcelona has the largest logistics area in southern Europe and the Mediterranean around a modern seaport. The Logistics Activities Zone (LAZ). Its 239 hectares of logistics facilities house more than 130 freight forwarding companies, Spanish and international logistics operators and large multinationals and more than 920,000 m² of warehouses. 

Barcelona's logistics capacity enables a company to outsource transport, storage and all kinds of logistic services tailored to its own products and needs and, in this way, concentrate its resources and efforts on knowing the markets in depth and selling its products.

Large international companies such as Amazon, Ikea, Lidl or Decathlon have already chosen Barcelona to distribute their products throughout southern Europe.

There are new strategies to reduce logistics costs such as the so-called  Port-Centric Logistics or the Port as the centre of the supply chain. It consists of placing a large warehouse in the vicinity of a port to unload the container, return it to the terminal, prepare the products to adapt them to the final market and organise distribution over a wide area, combining various means of transport and transversal services.

This strategy reduces the time to market for products, increases responsiveness to clients and facilitates reverse logistics. It also makes it possible to reduce inventories and lower port and logistics costs and, finally, reduces the environmental impact. Thanks to its port capacity and especially its logistics know-how, Barcelona is an ideal place to take advantage of general warehouse concentration trends, take advantage of customs advantages and implement Port-Centric Logistics strategies.
