Under the Economic System and Service Provision at Ports of General Interest Act, the Port of Barcelona has authority over and is responsible for the management and maintenance of all navigational aids in the maritime province of Barcelona, which runs from the coast of Vilanova to France, as well as on the Port of Barcelona's own premises.

This means that all lighthouses, beacons and buoys offering aid or warnings with regard to navigational hazards located on the shore of the administrative provinces of Barcelona and Girona (which together comprise the maritime province of Barcelona) fall under its jurisdiction.

The Port of Barcelona more over has functional jurisdiction over the inspection of all other aids to navigation located at ports a long the coasts of Barcelona and Girona. Jurisdiction over the management and maintenance of these aids falls to the regional Catalan government (Generalitat).
