Port of Barcelona - Catalan market

Catalonia has a very open and diverse economy with a preponderance of industrial and logistics activity. It enjoys a strategic location and a complete network of infrastructures that make it the southern gateway of Europe and the distribution center of the Mediterranean.

Barcelona is the only city in Southern Europe that offers all modes of transport (sea, air, land, road and rail) within a radius of 12 km. Different areas dedicated to logistics and distribution activities cover 3,600 hectares around the city.

The Port of Barcelona is Catalonia's principal transport and services infrastructure and the largest Euro-Mediterranean distribution hub. Its more than 30 terminals (one of which is semi-automated) specialized in general cargo and high added-value items, such as consumer goods, electronic products and vehicles, inter alia, are among the most productive in Europe.

Its logistics community offers importers and exporters complete logistics services around the globe. 100 regular shipping lines connect it with 213 ports on five continents. Also worthy of note are the so-called motorways of the sea, which link it daily with the main ports of Italy and North Africa. Barcelona is the first European Port in cruise traffic and is the leader in car traffic, with a 220-hectare Logistics Activities Area, and the "Port Vell" citizens' area, a global benchmark for port-city integration.

In recent years, Catalonia has consolidated its position as the gateway linking Europe with Latin America, Asia and North Africa, in an area of influence representing 60% of the European Union GDP. Barcelona connects with 400 million consumers in Europe and North Africa in less than 48 hours.

First joint initiative

The Port Authority of Barcelona and the Port Authority of Busan signed a cooperation agreement in 2020 to manage and operate the logistics center of 50,000m2 that both ports will develop in the ZAL of Barcelona. The implementation of this project aims to revitalize trade and provide a stable logistics platform for Korean companies doing business between Northeast Asia and South Europe through both ports.
